Worst case scenario happened :(

Who doesn't fear it? The work is almost (or half-) finished, ready to be back-up'ed to a CD or DVD - and then: crash, the hard-drive breaks.

This happened to me two days ago.
I had all my pictures and texts on partition D:/ which was on the same hard drive as the C:/ partiton was ...
I wanted to copy them to a DVD for my monthly back-up when a power jitter caused my computer to switch off - and then: nothing, not even the BIOS ... A check by a computer expert made clear that this hard drive was broken.

So, a new installation to the hard drive where formerly my music and videos (E:/) has become necessary - luckily I have these as back-up on DVDs (well, most of them).
Total loss: 6GB on files and more than 2 weeks of work.

Lesson learned: I bought an USB stick where I will regularly save each and every single file I work on as back-up, as soon as I close it.

Now I am re-installing/recording (transl.?) everything including older pics, texts and my music&videos from the back-up DVDs to the hard drive... it's quite a load of work, even with 3.5GB of RAM and a 5600+ Athlon X2 processor...

Just wanted to say.. I just finished part one of your story, I read it in one marathon read, and I think it's fantastic. Can't wait until I'm awake enough to start reading part two. Thanks for writing something so awesome and sharing it with the world. Definatly gave me a break from the usual boring rubbish i read before bed.
